Santa attacked at IKEA store in Ballymun

A Yuletide story for you now.

I spluttered on my Weetabix earlier when RTE’s Morning Ireland reported that Gardai (Irish police) were investigating an attack on Santa that took place in Dublin yesterday.

It seems that ex-builder turned Father Christmas, Kevin Shiels, was doing his Santa slot in IKEA, Ballymun, when he was set upon and punched by two-fourteen-year-olds. An elf was at hand, fortunately, to call security.

Things are getting more surreally bizarre in this country every day, they really are...

Hi GM, looks like "your" Santa has imbibed too much of the Christmas spirit - a dangerous job between consuming all the alcohol that's left out for him on 24th and doing a stint in IKEA.

And we all sing
"I saw Deco beating Santa Klaus underneath the mistletoe last night" and so on..

@ Ella. Ah sure, can we blame him hitting the bottle after a few weeks there?

@ John. Ha ha... Mind you, I think we need an Anto-dote for such behaviour!

I suppose diplomatic relations have broken down between Eire and the Northpole over this GM? Make ready the learjet, maybe we can send over a deputation to give them a bit of the auld blarney? Make them see that the Irish are the injured party in all this, not the KO'd Santa. Don't you realise, at the very least, the two lads could have suffered abrasions to their fists? What about all the psychological trauma they would have endured?

The land of saints and scholars could be in line for a reduction in the price of toys, those silly elfs charge the hardpressed billionaires of Ireland. Don't forget, Eire is the land where the sun never sets on the genius of the Irish.

The question is, does Ireland have an unusually high percentage of scumbags in the population? I think the answer is yes. The welfare system, created and expanded by the gombeen politicians, geeks in the civil service and headbangers in the catholic church and all the do-gooder ngo's, have all encouraged the riff raff and scumbags to propagate. Then of course we have the so called educated scumbags that weasel themselves into positions of power, then rob and plunder the country is a much more clever way.

Sounds like a compo claim in the offing, D.

I think so, Anon. I've lived in a couple of places, and that is my perception.

@Anon 16:09, there is no doubt there is a larger number of them here, of every so called "class." What's worse, it seems to be a virulent strain of the scumbag, with increasingly worse versions as time progresses. Culture here seems to be believing its self- generated myths.
